On December 2, 2025, the China–UK Think Tank Dialogue was held at the China Institute of International Studies(CIIS). Chen Bo, president of CIIS and Ollie Shiell, co-founder and chief executive of UK National Committee on China (UKNCC) attended the event and delivered opening remarks.
Chen Bo noted the world is undergoing complex and profound changes. China advocates an equal and orderly multipolar world. It supports inclusive and beneficial economic globalization. The Global Governance Initiative seeks to uphold the UN-centered international system adhere to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and advance reforms to improve global governance. China has formulated its 15th Five-Year Plan Recommendations, which will create new opportunities through China’s development. She called for stronger exchanges between Chinese and UK think tanks to foster stable China–UK and China–EU relations.
Ollie Shiell said China has achieved remarkable progress and is a country of major global influence. The UK needs a deeper understanding of China. Over the past five years, the UKNCC has worked to promote a more comprehensive and objective view of China in the UK. He expressed commitment to expand dialogue with British and Chinese partners to advance UK–China and EU–China relations and jointly address global challenges.
Gou Haibo, vice president of CIIS, Zhang Yan, director of Research Department IV, Xi Jinping Thought on Economy Study Center, and Yao Ling, director of the Institute for European Studies, CAITEC, joined the discussion along with other CIIS scholars. Experts from the UKNCC, the University of Cambridge and King’s College London, held in-depth discussions on China’s new development and global opportunities, the Global Governance Initiative, a community with a shared future for humanity, as well as China–UK and China–EU relations.
