On Dec.8-9 2021, China Institute of International Studies hosts the 18th China-U.S. Young Leaders Dialogue virtual meeting. The meeting is dedicated to the theme of “Promote Stability in China-U.S. Relations: Input from Think-tanks”. President Xu Bu delivered opening remarks, and Secretary General Yang Yi moderated the meeting.

President Xu Bu pointed out that promoting stability in China-U.S. relations is important not only for the peace and prosperity of both countries, but also for the Asia-Pacific region and the entire world. At the virtual summit with U.S. President Biden, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation between the two countries. President Xu extended hope that young scholars from Chinese and American think-tanks would propose ideas and recommendations for the bilateral relations to return to the right track, and contribute to the mutual understanding and mutual trust for the two countries.

Participants include scholars from China Institute of International Studies, the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, the Center for a New American Security, National Committee on American Foreign Policy, Johns Hopkins University, Columbia University, Dartmouth College, University of Notre Dame, University of Tennessee, the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, University of California, Santa Barbara, and the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. Participants exchanged ideas on topics of China-US bilateral dispute management, dialogue on regional issues, and cooperation on global governance, and proposed constructive recommendations on how to promote stability in China-US relations.

The China-U.S. Young Leaders’ Dialogue project was initiated by CIIS in 2011, and over a hundred participants from the two countries have participated. The project has grown into an important platform of dialogue between young scholars from China and the US, and has received acclaim in the two countries’ academic circles.
