An China-Nepal academic symposium was held in CIIS

On Dec 23, 2025, an international academic symposium titled “The 70th Anniversary of China-Nepal Diplomatic Relations: Reflections and Prospects” was held in Beijing. It was co-hosted by the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) and the Embassy of Nepal in China. Liu Qing, vice president of the CIIS, and Roshan Khanal, chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Nepal in China, attended the symposium and delivered opening remarks. Scholars from both sides held in-depth discussions on the successful historical experience of China-Nepal relations, practical cooperation in economy, trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges, and jointly building a China-Nepal community with a shared future.

Liu Qing noted that over the past 70 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have consistently treated each other with sincerity, mutual respect and mutual support, maintaining sound and steady development of bilateral relations. He expressed the hope that the two sides would take the 70th anniversary as a new starting point to carry forward traditional friendship, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in all fields, advance China-Nepal relations to better benefit the peoples of both countries and contribute to regional peace and development.

Roshan Khanal stated that Nepal and China are good neighbors, good friends and good partners linked by mountains and rivers. He noted that Nepal looks forward to taking the 70th anniversary as an opportunity to deepen cooperation with China and advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. He also called for enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, science and technology, and tourism to promote deeper development of bilateral relations.

 

Experts and scholars attending the symposium agreed that over the past 70 years, China–Nepal relations have achieved remarkable progress and accumulated valuable experience.Regardless of changes in the international and regional landscape, the two sides have always upheld mutual respect, equality and win-win cooperation, setting an example for friendly relations between countries with different social systems and of different sizes. Looking ahead, both sides expressed the hope to further strengthen exchanges, deepen practical cooperation and advance the China–Nepal strategic partnership of cooperation featuring ever-lasting friendship for development and prosperity.

Nearly 50 experts and scholars from institutions including the China Study Centre of Nepal, Nepal’s Policy Research Institute, Tribhuvan University, as well as the CIIS, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, and Hebei University of Economics and Business attended the symposium.
