The Symposium on the International Situation and China's Foreign Relations, hosted by the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS), was held in Beijing on December 29 and 30. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony. Chen Bo, president of the CIIS, presided over the opening ceremony.
Attendees at the opening ceremony included Chen Zhou, vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee; Li Kexin, deputy director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs; Miao Deyu, vice-foreign minister; Yang Wanming, vice-president of the China Law Society; Yang Wanming, president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries; Wu Ken, president of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs; and Hu Zhangliang, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).
The symposium, founded in 1989, has been held for 37 consecutive sessions. This year's event attracted participation from approximately 150 experts and scholars representing over 70 institutions, including central Party and government departments, military units, and local authorities.
The symposium also featured in-depth panel discussions on major-country relations, the international strategic landscape, building a community with a shared future in neighboring regions, and the Global Governance Initiative. Distinguished experts and scholars from institutions such as Peking University, China Foreign Affairs University, and Fudan University were invited to deliver keynote speeches.
