Seminar on “The 30th Anniversary of the Independence of Belarus and China-Belarus Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” Held Online

  On November 10th, China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) and the Belarusian Embassy in China jointly held a video-seminar on “The 30th Anniversary of the Independence of Belarus and China-Belarus Comprehensive Strategic Partnership”. Li Hui, Special Representative of the Chinese Government for Eurasian Affairs, Yuri Senko, Ambassador of Belarus to China, and Rong Ying, Vice President of CIIS, delivered speeches respectively. Li Ziguo, Director of Department for European-Central Asian Studies of CIIS, and Roman Sokol, Counsellor of the Belarusian Embassy in China, co-chaired the meeting.

  

  Special Representative Li Hui pointed that China and Belarus are close friends and comprehensive strategic partners. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, the two countries have always respected each other and treated each other equally, becoming a model of friendly cooperation between countries. At present, the development of China-Belarus relations is facing an important node. In January next year, China and Belarus will jointly celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The development of China-Belarus relations is standing at a new historical starting point and will face broader prospects.

  Vice President Rong Ying said that in recent years, under the strategic guidance and mutral interest of President Xi Jinping and President Lukashenko, China-Belarus relations have enjoyed sustained, stable and healthy development, leading to fruitful outcomes in political, economic and trade, science and technology, education, culture, and regional cooperation. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Belarus' independence and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-Belarus diplomatic relations, CIIS and the Belarusian Embassy in China held this seminar to commemorate this important historical moment and to contribute to China-Belarus mutual trust and long-term friendship via track Ⅱ dialogue.

  More than 10 experts and scholars from CIIS, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences(CASS), Renmin University of China, Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies(BISR), Belarusian State University and other institutions participated in the meeting. They discussed in-depth the development achievements and prospects of Belarus, the historical achievements and future prospects of China-Belarus comprehensive strategic partnership as well as other issues.
