CURRICULUM VITAE

MEI Zhaorong was formerly Chinese Ambassador to Germany and is now Distinguished Research Fellow at China Institute of International Studies (CIIS).

He also holds positions as Distinguished Professor at Fudan University and Chairman of the Academic Supervision Committee, Center for European Studies, Fudan University, Honorary Director of the Institute of International and Public Affairs, Tongji University (Shanghai), Honorary Director of the Institute of World Development, the Development Research Center of the State Council, and Vice President of the Chinese Institute of International Strategic Studies (CIISS).

Ambassador Mei was born in Shanghai in 1934. He studied English at Beijing Foreign Languages Institute (now known as Beijing Foreign Studies University) and German language and literature at the Leipzig University from 1951 to 1956. After that he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.

Before taking the current position, Amb. Mei was President of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs.
