From November 7 to 10, 2023, China Institute of International Studies successfully held the 20th China-U.S. Young Scholars' Dialogue. The theme of this year’s dialogue is "Find the Right Way for China and the U.S. to Get Along in the New Era: Opportunities and Challenges". President Chen Bo delivered opening remarks for the conference. Vice-President Liu Qing delivered closing remarks.
President Chen Bo pointed out that China and the U.S., as two major countries in the world, should find the right way to get along with each other, uphold the three principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, promote the stable and healthy development of bilateral relations, and provide positive momentum for world peace and development. We hope that through the dialogue, young scholars from China and the U.S. will gain more understanding of each other, increase mutual trust, and build friendship. We also hope that the U.S. delegates will benefit from the field visits and have more personal experience to support the future research work.
Vice-President Liu Qing echoed that the future of China-U.S. relations lies with the youth. He expressed appreciation for the participants’ deep and broad analyses of the opportunities and challenges underlying China-U.S. relations as well as their policy suggestions.

The Dialogue brings together 16 mid-career young scholars from the China Institute of International Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China and Fudan University on the Chinese side, and the Eurasia Group, National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, Carter Center, Stimson Center, Asia Society Policy Institute, Hoover Institution of Stanford University, University of California, Indiana University on the U.S. side. Participants exchanged ideas on the topics of “Harness Positive Energy of Domestic Issues for China-U.S. Relations”, “Promote Healthy Development of China-U.S. Economic Relations”, “Manage Differences and Disagreements and Prevent Confrontation and Conflict”, and “Shoulder Responsibilities for the World as Major Countries”.
During the Dialogue, CIIS also organized an outreach program for the U.S. participants and facilitated meetings at the China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chinese Academy of Macroeconomic Research, Institute for Strategic Studies of CIECC, Renmin University of China and the Editorial Department of China Daily. U.S. participants also went to Zhengding County, Hebei Province.

The China-U.S. Young Scholars' Dialogue Project was initiated by CIIS in 2011. Its annual/biannual dialogue has been held for 20 rounds. The project has grown into an important platform for intellectual exchanges among mid-career young scholars from China and the U.S..
