On October 22nd, CIIS and China Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Research Center jointly held a seminar on “The 30th Anniversary of the Independence of Central Asian Countries and China-Central Asia Relations”. Liu Qing, Vice President of CIIS delivered opening remarks. Deng Hao, Secretary-General of the China SCO Research Center, and Han Lu, Deputy Director of Department for European-Central Asian Studies of CIIS co-chaired the seminar.
Liu Jiangping, Counsellor of the Department of European-Central Asian Affairs made a special report, giving in-depth explanations on the overall achievements of Central Asian countries among 30 years since independence, making judgments and predictions about their development and the current and future trends of China-Central Asia relations.
More than 20 experts and scholars from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Development Research Center of the State Council, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Institute of International Trade and Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce, Renmin University of China, Shanghai University of Political Science and Law and other units attended the meeting. Taking into account the current international situation, participants conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as the development achievements of the Central Asian countries in 30 years since independence and the diplomatic relations between China and the five Central Asian countries in three decades.
