On August 11th, CIIS hosted a webinar on the subject of “China-Japan Relations in the Post-epidemic Era”. President Qi Zhenhong attended the opening session and delivered a speech. Experts and scholars from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, University of Tokyo, Asia Pacific Initiative, Cannon Institute of Global Studies and Asia University attended the meeting.

In his speech, President Qi pointed out that China and Japan, as major Asian countries and economies in the world, shoulder important responsibilities in fighting the epidemic, maintaining regional peace and stability, and promoting economic recovery and development. President Qi then made four points of view on the current international situation and China-Japan relations: at first, under the new situation, China and Japan should jointly promote the continuous improvement and development of bilateral relations with new thinking; secondly, China and Japan should take new actions to control contradictions and differences, and adhere to the road of win-win cooperation; thirdly, the relationship between China and Japan should not be affected by the changes of international relations, but should be the mainstay of the global changes in the post-epidemic era; at last, think tanks and scholars of China and Japan should play a positive role in enhancing mutual understanding and trust between the two sides and improving national feelings.

Vice President Rong Ying attended the meeting and made a conclusion. Director Liu Qing and other scholars from Department for Asia-Pacific Studies also joined the meeting.
