Authored by six researchers at CIIS and co-edited by Mr. Dong Manyuan and Ms. Su Xiaohui, the book is the main achievement of the research project “China’s neighboring security environment in the next decade”, a CIIS type-A project launched in 2011. The book aims at identifying and analyzing the main elements of China’s neighboring environment in the first decade of the 21st century, including the interactions between the conditions for achieving “general stability” and the factors leading to “partial turmoil”, an overall, strategic and forward-looking assessment of China’s neighboring security environment, an analysis of the traditional and non-traditional security challenges in such regions as Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Central Asia, and a review of China-related factors in neighboring security challenges and their impacts. Based on the aforementioned research, the authors put forward policy recommendations for the Chinese Government to better safeguard national security and practicing neighborhood diplomacy.
The book was published in Beijing by World Affairs Press in September 2015.
