The book is the main achievement of the National Social Science Fund (NSSF) key project “New Changes and Development Trend of the U.S. Strategy Toward the Asia-Pacific and China’s Responses”, which was launched in June 2012 and chaired by CIIS Executive Vice President Dr. Ruan Zongze. Totaling 310 thousand Chinese characters, the book provides a panorama of the U.S. “rebalancing toward the Asia-Pacific” strategy. Apart from analyzing the background and underlying causes of U.S. “rebalancing” strategy, the book discusses the objectives and paths for implementing the strategy and the responses of major countries in and outside the Asia-Pacific region to the strategy. Based on an analysis of the inherent defects of the “rebalancing” strategy and the dilemmas and constraints faced by the United States in its implementation, the authors make some bold predictions of the prospect of the strategy. After assessing the direct and indirect impacts of U.S. “rebalancing” strategy on China, the authors propose some policy recommendations for the Chinese Government to appropriately respond to the strategy.
The book was published in Beijing by Current Affairs Press in July 2015.
