International Symposium on Promoting Dialogue and Cooperation on South Sudan and the Horn of Africa held in Beijing

   On 5 June, the Symposium on“Promoting Dialogue and Cooperation on South Sudan and the Horn of Africa” was held in Beijing, which was jointly hosted by China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) and the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HDC). Mr. Dong Manyuan, Vice President of CIIS, Ms.Meredith Preston-McGhie, HD Africa Regional Director, and Mr. Ben Crampton, Chief of Staff to the EU Special Representative for the Horn of Africa delivered opening speeches.

    The participants from China, Europe and Africa carried out in-depth discussions on the topics of security situation of the horn of Africa, peace process in South Sudan and trilateral cooperation. Amb. Zhou Yuxiao, Ambassador for FOCAC Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maj. Gen. Qian Lihua, former director of the Foreign Affairs Office, Ministry of Defense, Amb. Nakaha Stanislas, Chief of Staff to the AU Special Representative to South Sudan, and Amb. Tewolde Gebremeskel, Director of Peace and Security Division, IGAD, delivered keynote speeches during the meeting.   

    Participants include experts from Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, the Export-Import Bank of China, China Peacekeeping Police Training Center, CASS, Shanghai International Studies University, HDC, EU, AU, IGAD and Boston University.
