Vice President Xu Jian leads a delegation to attend the thirteenth meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum

    On May 4-5, 2018, the 13th meeting of the SCO Forum was held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. Vice President Xu Jian of the China Institute of International Studies led a delegation of Chinese experts to attend the meeting and gave a special speech on the future development direction of the SCO. Experts conducted in-depth discussions on the role and significance of the SCO in the new geopolitical contex, the future development prospects of the SCO, and security and economic cooperation of SCO.

    The forum meeting was organized by the Institute of World Economics and Politics under The Foundation of the First President of the Republic Kazakhstan. More than 70 participants from the SCO's eight member states and observer countries such as Iran, Afghanistan and Belarus, the SCO Secretariat, and regional anti-terrorism implementation committee attended the meeting. The SCO Kazakh national coordinator Alimbayev and SCO deputy secretary-general Subakowova attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

    During the conference, the China Institute of International Studies signed a bilateral academic cooperation agreement with the Institute of World Economy and Politics under The Foundation of the First President of the Republic Kazakhstan. At the end of the meeting, the handover ceremony of the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Forum was also held. China officially took over the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Forum of 2018-2019, and held the 14th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Forum in 2019.
