CIIS Held Conference on Sino-US Security Relations

On January 26, the Conference on Sino-US Security Relations, co-hosted by CIIS and China Energy Fund Committee (CEFC) opened in Beijing. Amb. Fu Ying, Chairperson, Foreign Affairs Committee of the 12th National People's Congress attended the conference and delivered a keynote speech. Amb. Su Ge, President of CIIS and Dr. Ho C. P. Patrick, Deputy Chairman and Secretary-General of CEFC delivered the opening remarks respectively.

 

Amb. Wang Yingfan, former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lieutenant General Chen Xiaogong, Member of Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress and other experts from China Institute of International Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, National Defence University PLA China, Peking University, Renmin University attended the conference. The US delegation mainly included Mr. Robert C. McFarlane, former U.S. National Security Advisor and R. James Woolsey, former Director of Central Intelligence Agency, Mr. Tom Ridge, First U.S. Secretary of  Homeland Security, etc.

 

Both sides had an in-depth exchanges on a wide range of topics, including towards future Sino-US relations, impact of US Presidential election on the prospect of Sino-US relations, Sino- US cooperation on non-traditional security issues (cyber, anti-terrorism) and the issue of the South China Sea.
